Wendy Warr


Dr. Warr has Masters and Doctors degrees in chemistry from the University of Oxford, England. She is a Chartered Chemist, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. She has over 50 years’ experience in information systems and research computing including nearly 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Before founding Wendy Warr & Associates in January 1992, she was Manager of Information Services for ICI Pharmaceuticals. Wendy Warr & Associates offer consultancy services, do competitive intelligence studies, attend major conferences and write reports in the fields of cheminformatics, computational chemistry and electronic publishing. Clients include pharmaceutical companies, pharmaceutical industry partners, software companies, publishers, and scientific database producers.

Dr. Warr is the recipient of the 2020 Herman Skolnik Award. She is active in the Chemical Information Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and has served on several international scientific committees including those of the German Chemical Society’s cheminformatics meeting and of the annual International Chemical Information Conference (ICIC). She was General Secretary of the International Council for Scientific and Technical Information until 2015. She has been involved with the Chemical Notation (later Structure) Association (CSA) since its inception and is a Trustee of the CSA Trust. She was Chairman of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry’s (IUPAC) Committee on Printed and Electronic Publications for six years. She has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of ACS Books, the Advisory Board of ACS Software, the ACS Committee on Copyrights, the Canvassing Committee for the ACS Award for Computers in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Research, and the Publications Committee of the Society of Chemical Industry. She served on the Steering Committee of the MDL Software Users Group in the USA and Europe for more than ten years and was a prime mover in the first three of the three-yearly Noordwijkerhout International Conferences on Chemical Structures sponsored by ACS, the Chemical Structure Association Trust and other chemical societies. She reports annually on ChemAxon User Group Meetings.

She was an Editor of the ACS Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling (formerly Journal of Chemical Information and Computer Sciences) for 24 years, from 1989-2013. She has written for the Journal of Computer-Aided Molecular Design and is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cheminformatics. She has written or edited nine books and has over 80 publications to her credit.
